John's Contributions
My contributions include:
- Designing and coding the Title, Story, Game Over, and Victory screens.
- Designing and coding the Boat, Cannon, Enemy Ships, Asteroid Hitboxes, and Treasure.
The most significant thing I learned for this project was how to use Behavior Trees. I used them to code the flight of the enemy ships. Another thing I learned was how to allow the player to possess other actors which is how I had the players control the boat and cannon.
I wish we had more time to make the planets explorable. Initially we planned to make towns on the planets that would have skeletons and treasure chests. The player would be able to explore these towns, fight the skeletons, and collect treasure. Unfortunately, we ran out of time before we could complete everything for the towns.
For the collaboration, I wish we were able to make our own assets rather than be required to fit the theme of one of the two asset packs we were supplied. It would have given us more freedom to create whatever kind of game we could collectively think of.
